Types of Conservatories / Porches
The Georgian conservatory is one of the most straightforward designs available and will suit the majority of home styles and look perfect when installed with existing Georgian architecture.
These are square or rectangular in shape allowing you to make the most of the space provided by the conservatory whilst having the space for fitting in furniture.
Generally Edwardian conservatories feature mostly the same characteristics and benefits as a Georgian conservatory and as such they will be described in the same way or will fall in to the same category.
These are the most popular style in the UK and they have a traditional look that suits the majority of properties.
Because of the flexibility of their design, Victorian conservatories are suitable for a range of uses and are regularly used as dining rooms, playrooms or second living rooms.
The main feature of a Victorian conservatory is the bay front, combined with a steeply pitched roof and ornate detailing.
The majority of Victorian conservatories feature a small brick wall running around the bottom section of the conservatory but can be fully glazed, with glass from top to bottom and no wall
Lean To conservatories provide a bright and airy addition to your home and they are one of the most cost effective conservatories available.
With a simple shape and no, or little ornate detailing, a lean to conservatory is a great choice for a modern option that will provide plenty of space, whilst making use of available sunlight to give a bright and airy usable space
Lean To conservatories are installed against an existing house wall and are either square or rectangular in shape. They have a flat roof that slopes downwards , which in many cases will also be glazed but tiled roofs can also be installed. They can be installed on a low level brick wall or they can be fully glazed from the ground up.
A Gable conservatory have similar characteristics to a Georgian conservatory with the addition of a flat, upright front – the Gable End – and these conservatories work well with both modern and period homes.
Gable conservatories generally feature symmetrical structures with either a rectangular or square shape. Decorative glass is regularly installed in the Gable end feature at the highest point and these conservatories include a a short wall, up to several bricks high, which runs around the bottom section of the structure
These conservatories provide you with plenty of space that creates a bright and airy feel, but adds even more space due to the height of the ceiling and they are a great option if you are looking for a more traditional conservatory with more modern building styles.
The lantern conservatory is considered one of the most elegant designs thanks to its roof shape and are an ideal option where a larger conservatory is required as a living space or perhaps to house a swimming pool etc
The lantern conservatory has an impressive roof design and one of the most unique shapes, featuring a two-tiered effect which is similar to the orangeries from years gone by and they are ideal for Victorian, Georgian or other period properties but can be adapted to fit modern properties as well.
These can be fully glazed wall to ceiling, have a small wall running around the bottom of the structure or have extra brickwork with full walls or column style walls included as well
Due to the style of a lantern conservatory it is one of the biggest, brightest and airiest options available and with the installation of operated windows in the second tier you can have better ventilation and have more control over the air flow and temperature.
A T-shaped conservatory is a longer structure with a smaller section jutting out in the centre. The longer section is generally Victorian or Georgian and the smaller section is either Victorian, Georgian or Gable and these are a great way to create more room without having to build a full extension and will blends well with both period or modern architecture.
These conservatories will usually run the length of the house and are most suitable for larger homes with available space. The main doors, which are generally French doors, are usually located in the centre of the conservatory in the section that juts out and lead out into your garden. Along with the windows the design allows you to open it out and enjoy the weather during warmer months.
A P-shaped conservatory combines elements of a lean-to conservatory (the long part of the p) and either a Victorian or Edwardian conservatory (the rounded end of the P).
Whilst slightly more expensive than some other designs they can provide you with a great deal of room with two additional spaces, making them ideal for combining a general seating area with dining room or play room etc
These conservatories usually feature a short wall that runs around the bottom of the structure, but they can also be fully glazed if required.
The rounded section of the conservatory will be multi-faceted, with 3 or 5 facets and due to its size they are most suited to larger homes with a good amount of wall space available.
Our UPVC glazed porches are an ideal option if you want to have an area surrounding your front door that is protected from the elements.
Ideal for removing dirty shoes or boots, wet coats or drying off your wet dog whilst staying protected from any rain etc.
These are the perfect solution when a smaller area is required
